5 Ceria experimenting to check properties of substance

last week 5 Ceria had experimenting with the substance that they bring to determine the properties of the substance either acidic, alkaline or neutral.
substance: litmus paper (red and blue), vinegar, toothpaste, soap, sugar and salt.
student were divided into 5 group and they were asked to bring all the substance. they keen and eager to do the experiment since they brought the substance themselves.
steps:
1. student have to prepare the substance by putting the substance into the petri dish
2. after putting the substance, student dipped the litmus paper into the petri dish and observe if there any changes
3. then student need to put in some water into the dish
4. for substance that safe to be taste,student tasted the substance before dipping both litmus paper into the solution.
5. the result recorded in the table

the result surprised them because the colour change rapidly

acid and alkali

acid and alkali are one of the properties of substance that existed in our daily life. our food and our daily life activities all contain various types substance and ingredient which have their own properties which is either acid,alkali or neutral. so how can we recognize the acidic or alkaline or neutral substance? 

do you recognize those? 

in those picture, that an indicator that can tell you whether the substance is acidic, neutral or alkaline.

acidic substance are substance that contain acid 
acidic substance did not change red litmus paper 
acidic substance change blue litmus paper into red coloration

blue litmus paper turn to blue when in contact with acidic substance 

if you can't find any litmus paper, you still can distinguish the properties of substance. just use your tongue!

if the substance that you taste is sour, then they might be an acidic substance.but be aware!!!..do not taste any substance!..make sure it is edible and safe then you can do the tasting. example of acidic substance that we always use in our daily life

alkaline substance are substance that contain alkali

alkaline substance did not change blue litmus paper 

alkaline substance change red litmus paper into blue coloration

red litmus paper change into blue coloration

for alkaline you absolutely cannot taste those alkaline substance below

that's all for the topic. we shall discuss about an experiment in this topic next.

fast forward..

because of in next two week we'll be celebrating fasting month, so i'm fast forward the topic a bit so i can organize an experiment with my 5 Amanah and 5 Ceria students. i'm bring in the acid and alkaline topic first before carry on with states of matter's topic. well because the experiment shall need them to taste the substance, the food so the experiment cannot be done in fasting month. so later on the topic will be a lot of talk about is all about the taste.
